This contributes to the feeling of satiety and helps with weight loss, but also means that in some people, despite normal fasting according to the guidelines, food may still be present in the stomach [1,2,3]. <\/p><p>This is especially relevant with sedation or general anaesthesia, where there is a risk that stomach contents end up in the airways (aspiration) [1,4,5]. With procedures under local anaesthetic, such as an eyelid correction, this risk is considerably lower, because you remain conscious and protect your own airway [4]. <\/p><p>Still, it is important for us to know whether you use this medication, particularly if you suffer from nausea, a bloated feeling, or if you have recently started the medication or the dosage has been increased; in those situations the chance of delayed gastric emptying is greatest [3,4].<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5a508c4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"5a508c4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Points of attention<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2a8206e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2a8206e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>GLP-1 agonists slow down gastric emptying, particularly shortly after starting or increasing the dosage [3,4]<\/li><li>With local anaesthetic (as with an eyelid correction) the risk is considerably lower than with sedation or anaesthesia [4].
