With an eyelid correction this is no different, and even extra relevant, because the blood vessels around the eye are small and sensitive. <\/p><p>In this blog you read why blood pressure plays such an important role with the eyelid correction and how we deal with this at Kliniek het Bolwerk.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aa53687 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"aa53687\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why is blood pressure relevant with an eyelid correction?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bcece18 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bcece18\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Hypertension is seen as the most important risk factor for the arising of a bruise (haematoma) after an eyelid correction. A haematoma behind the eye (retrobulbar haematoma) is rare, but can in serious cases threaten eyesight [1,3]. <\/p><p>Research shows that an elevated blood pressure during and directly after the operation is related to a greater chance of secondary bleeding. In a study in which the blood pressure after the operation was kept strictly below 120 mmHg (systolic), no haematoma occurred in any of the patients, not even in patients who used blood thinners [1]. Fluctuations in the blood pressure during the procedure itself also turn out to be a predictive factor for secondary bleeding [2].  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-da40fd3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"da40fd3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Points of attention<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-75e2201 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"75e2201\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>A well-regulated blood pressure before the procedure reduces the risk of bleeding complications [1,2,4]<\/li><li>Sudden blood pressure fluctuations during the procedure increase the risk of a haematoma, even more than a slightly elevated starting value [2]<\/li><li>Hypertension also increases the risk of swelling after eyelid corrections [4]<\/li><li>Stress and tension around the procedure can temporarily increase the blood pressure; a calm, relaxed preparation helps<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f5f25c1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f5f25c1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Our protocol at Kliniek het Bolwerk<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1f6c04f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1f6c04f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">1. Medication continues<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c32fbae elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c32fbae\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Blood pressure medication is, as a rule, simply continued on the day of the procedure, in consultation with your plastic surgeon, GP or cardiologist; stopping can actually have a counterproductive effect [2].<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-629de7f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"629de7f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">3. Blood pressure monitoring during the procedure<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c70c7f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c70c7f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>If you have a strongly elevated blood pressure, we monitor your blood pressure during the procedure and try to prevent fluctuations, in line with the insights from recent research into haematoma formation [1,2]. This is also sometimes difficult because the measuring can actually have a blood-pressure-raising effect due to extra stress.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-226fbef elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"226fbef\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">4.
