Step 1: Making an appointment for a consultation

Step 2: The consultation

During the intake interview we discuss:

Your medical history and medication use
Your wishes and any questions
Realistic treatment options and alternatives
Risks, complications and aftercare
The treatment in detail

We will take plenty of time for this consultation and answer all your questions. Photos are also kept confidential. Everything at this point is about you being well informed and feeling at ease. That way you can make an informed choice.

Step 3: After the consultation

If you are satisfied with the consultation, we begin preparation. Our specialist discusses the treatment technique used and plans the procedure. In addition, you will receive a prompt aftercare plan from us so you can get back to 100% enjoyment as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, we arrange the final formalities. Once all the details are settled, the last few weeks go by quickly. And then the time has come: we will help you get the best result!

Step 4: Making an appointment for treatment

Step 5: A few days before the treatment

Important issues prior to surgery are:

Step 6: One day before treatment

With surgery in sight, you would do well to check the following points:

Have you scheduled a quiet day?
Are groceries and help arranged?
Has transportation home been arranged?
Do you have sunglasses ready to go?

We are counting down to the big day. Make sure you don’t have anything to take care of so you can totally relax. We expect you tomorrow for a smooth run!

Step 7: The day of treatment

Today is the day, we are ready! Shower in the morning and come to the clinic 15 minutes beforehand. The procedure takes about an hour. Afterwards, you will stay for a while before going home.

Have someone ready to pick you up. Take it easy for the first few days and cool your eyelids regularly. Our specialist will be happy to explain how to continue your recovery. Good luck today!

Step 8: The first days after treatment

Your eyelids will swell slightly and are bruised for the first few days. This is normal and decreases gradually. Leave the wound strips in place; they hold the sutures in place.

Take it easy for the first 3 days. After that, light tasks such as working at home at the computer can be resumed. Call us immediately if you have any questions or concerns.

Step 9: One week after treatment

Come back on the appointed date for removal of the sutures. Your eyes may still be slightly swollen; this will go away on its own.

Apply the scars 6 times daily with a cream with vitamin E. You may use makeup again, just avoid bright sunshine on your eyelids. Our specialist will check your recovery. Have confidence in a good result!

Step 10: 2 weeks after treatment

You can now resume all your normal activities, including sports. The last of the swelling has disappeared.

Step 11: 10 - 15 years after treatment

After 10-15 years, eyelid fat formation may return. Should this happen, a second procedure offers relief.

After my training I started working at the Spaarne Hospital, now the Spaarne Gasthuis with locations in Hoofddorp, Haarlem Zuid and Noord. Here I was involved in reconstructive surgery, trauma, hand and general plastic surgery.

What are the risks and complications of eyelid surgery in Haarlem

Why doesn't Kliniek het Bolwerk show "before and after" photos?

At Kliniek het Bolwerk, we respect the privacy of our clients. Although we like to show what is possible with eyelid surgery, we are not allowed to share images without permission.

During the consultation, we do discuss expectations openly and honestly. Patients can bring their own photographs with them. This allows us to explain the treatment process and possible results, without going into individual cases.

How long is the recovery process?

For the first few days after surgery, it is wise to take it easy because of some swelling and bruising around the eyes. This is normal and decreases gradually.

About a week after the procedure, the sutures are removed. Then you are back on your feet, although it will take some time for the final results to show.

Usually within 2-3 weeks you will see most of the final improvement. We regularly see clients recover quickly.
