We also openly explain possible risks, complications and the follow-up process.
You will receive:
If you agree to the plan, we will make an appointment for treatment. Please make sure full payment is received by us in advance.
You will also receive a treatment agreement; we would like to see it signed.
Determine a convenient date in your calendar to keep a week free so that you can fully focus on the recovery process. This is important for optimal results.
Should anything change in your medical situation in the interim, please let us know immediately. That way we can make sure that all preparations are made for the treatment day.
By making these preparations with care, you ensure a smooth recovery period with minimal post-treatment discomfort.
With surgery imminent, it is wise to review the following points:
We are counting down to the day of treatment. Make sure you don’t have anything to take care of so you can relax. We are expecting you tomorrow so everything can go smoothly!
Today is the day, we are ready! Shower in the morning and come to the practice 15 minutes beforehand. The procedure will take about an hour. After that, you will stay for a while for observation.
Have someone ready to pick you up afterwards. Take it easy for the first few days and cool your eyelids regularly. Our specialist will still explain the recovery process to you. Good luck today!
The eyelids are somewhat swollen and possibly a little blue on the first day. On the second day, the swelling increases and becomes bluer. After that, the swelling quickly subsides. Leave the wound strips in place for now; they will hold the sutures in place during recovery.
Rest for the first 3 days. After that, light activities can be gradually resumed. Working at home at the computer is an option from the beginning and during the recovery period. This makes it easier to build recovery slowly, giving the body a chance to recover from the procedure first.
On the appointed date you will return for the removal of the sutures. The eyes may still be slightly swollen, but this will go away on its own.
Start massaging the scars with a cream with vitamin E. Do this 6 times a day for half an hour. This supports the healing process.
You may use makeup again. Do avoid excessive exposure to direct sunlight on the scars to prevent dark discoloration during recovery.
In this way, the recovery process is completed within a week and the results of the procedure are visible.
After two weeks, recovery is almost complete. You can resume all your usual activities such as sports from then on. Any swelling of the eyes will be completely gone by then.
The scar is well healed and almost invisible. The final result of eyelid surgery is clearly visible. You can be fully active again. If you still have questions, you can of course always contact us.
After 10 to 15 years, the symptoms may slowly return. It is then possible that a new eyelid surgery may provide relief.
If this is the case with you, schedule a consultation to discuss the situation with our specialist. During this consultation, we will look at your specific case and the treatment options that are currently available.
A new procedure may be a solution, if techniques have improved in the meantime. The consultation will determine the best way to get rid of the symptoms.
My name is David Jairath and I have been working as a plastic surgeon since 2004. I started my medical education at the University of Amsterdam. At this university I completed the specialist training to become a plastic surgeon.
During my studies I had the opportunity to do an internship in several hospitals in and outside the Netherlands. After my studies, I started working at the Spaarne Hospital in Hoofddorp, now part of the Spaarne Gasthuis with locations in Haarlem and Hoofddorp.
In this hospital setting, I engaged in reconstructive surgery and collaborated with colleagues in general surgery, hand surgery and general plastic surgery. In addition, I further specialized in cosmetic surgery through the clinic attached to the hospital.
I now put my vast experience of almost 20 years as a plastic surgeon to use at Kliniek het Bolwerk.

I was very well looked after, and everything was explained to me step by step. The final result is exactly what I had hoped for, and I definitely do not regret the treatment. Recovery during the first week was quite tough, but after just one week I was already healing very well. The end result is exactly what I had envisioned for years. I am very satisfied.

I am very satisfied with the treatment at Kliniek het Bolwerk in Haarlem. Dr David Jairath took all the time needed to explain everything clearly and carried out the procedure with great expertise. The treatment of my seborrhoeic wart (POK) went smoothly and without any issues. His friendly and calm manner immediately put me at ease. The communication by email, with clear instructions before and after the treatment, was also very helpful. Absolutely recommended!

Like any surgery, an eyelid elevator carries limited risks. Temporary swelling and blue discoloration around the eyes may occur shortly after surgery. These are normal reactions of the body and usually disappear after a few days to a week.
Scarring or asymmetry in the final result are less common. Our specialist performs the procedure carefully to avoid complications as much as possible. In addition, proper aftercare significantly reduces the risk of side effects.
Eyelid surgery is not covered by basic insurance in most cases because it is a cosmetic treatment. Some supplementary insurance policies do offer coverage. It is therefore worth checking whether your health insurer will cover the costs if the procedure is medically necessary. For example, in cases of restricted vision due to swollen or drooping eyelids.
Should your insurance not cover the treatment, you have the option of bearing the cost yourself. We are transparent about the costs. Feel free to contact us for more information. Together we look at the different options to see which treatment best suits your situation. Our specialists are ready to answer your questions.
At Kliniek het Bolwerk, we respect the privacy of our clients. Therefore, we do not share “before and after” photos of eyelid surgery without permission. Although we are happy to show the possibilities, medical records and images are private.
However, clients can discuss their own photos with us during the intake interview. This way we give an honest picture of what is possible without revealing specific treatments. Of course, only with permission.
Our specialists are happy to explain what the expectations are. This allows clients to make an informed choice. Respect for privacy is paramount.
The recovery process after eyelid surgery is usually smooth. During the first few days, you can expect swelling and blue discoloration around the eyes. These are normal physical reactions. Take rest for the first 3 days.
After about a week, most of these symptoms disappear. One week after the procedure, the sutures are removed. From then on, you can resume all normal activities, although it will take some time before the final results are visible.
Within two to three weeks, most results are visible. Typically, our clients make an excellent and quick recovery after eyelid surgery at our clinic in North Holland.
