What is jawline botox?

What does this term mean?

Definitie

Jawline botox is a treatment in which botox is injected into the muscles around the jaw, usually the masseter muscle. By temporarily relaxing this muscle, the jawline can become less wide and less angular, giving a softer and slimmer facial contour.

Uitgebreide uitleg

How does botox affect the jawline?

The shape of your jaw is largely determined by the underlying muscles and bone structure. When the masseter muscle is strongly developed, this can result in a wider, more square jawline.

Injecting botox into this muscle reduces its activity. In the weeks that follow, the muscle gradually becomes less powerful and often slightly smaller in volume. As a result, the jawline can subtly narrow and the face gets a more refined appearance.

This effect develops gradually and therefore looks natural.

When is jawline botox used?

Jawline botox is mainly used for aesthetic reasons. Many people choose this treatment when they want to make the shape of their face softer or slimmer.

The treatment can also have a functional effect. People who tense or clench their jaw a lot sometimes notice that their jaw muscles are strongly developed. In those cases, botox can not only affect the shape of the jaw but also reduce tension.

What does the treatment involve?

During the treatment, a small amount of botox is injected into the masseter muscle with a fine needle. This is usually done at several points, so that the effect is spread evenly.

The treatment takes ten to fifteen minutes on average and no anaesthetic is needed. You can resume your daily activities straight away afterwards.

The effect builds up gradually. After about two to four weeks you will start to see a difference, and after about six weeks the final result is visible.

How long does the result last?

The result of jawline botox is temporary and remains visible for three to six months on average. After that, muscle activity slowly increases again.

With repeated treatments, the muscle can decrease in size, so that the effect lasts longer and the result becomes more stable.

Are there any risks or side effects?

When the treatment is carried out by an experienced doctor, jawline botox is generally safe.

Possible side effects are slight swelling, redness or a bruise at the injection site. Some people temporarily have less strength when chewing. In rare cases, there may be slight asymmetry.

Careful treatment and good knowledge of the anatomy are important to prevent this.

Who is jawline botox suitable for?

Jawline botox may be suitable if you find a wide or angular jawline bothersome and want to give your face a softer appearance.

This treatment may also have an effect if you notice that you have a lot of tension in your jaw or regularly clench your teeth.

A consultation with a doctor is always needed to assess whether this treatment matches your wishes and situation.
