How does a lip flip work?
Normally the muscle around the mouth pulls the upper lip slightly inwards. Injecting botox at specific points in this muscle reduces the muscle tension. As a result, the lip ‘flips’ outwards a little and becomes more visible, without any volume being added to the lip.
The effect is subtle and gives the upper lip a slightly fuller look, particularly when speaking and smiling.
How is it different from a lip filler?
With a lip filler, hyaluronic acid is injected into the lips to add volume and make the lips visibly fuller. A lip flip does not add volume, but changes the position of the lip. The two treatments can also be combined to achieve a fuller and better-defined lip.

What does the treatment involve?
The treatment is carried out with a fine needle and takes only a few minutes. Anaesthetic is usually not needed, because the injections are very superficial. Most people feel only a slight pricking sensation.
You can resume activity immediately after the treatment. The effect develops gradually and is clearly visible after about a week.
How long does the result last?
The effect of a lip flip is temporary and lasts two to four months on average. This is shorter than with a lip filler, because less botox is used and the muscles around the mouth are active when eating and speaking.
Are there any risks or side effects?
A lip flip is generally well tolerated. Possible side effects are temporary redness or slight swelling at the injection sites. In some cases the treatment can affect pronunciation or drinking through a straw, particularly in the first days after the treatment.
Careful dosing and placement by an experienced doctor are important to prevent undesirable effects.
