What is mesotherapy?

What does this term mean?

Definitie

Mesotherapy is a treatment in which small amounts of active substances are injected directly into the middle layer of the skin. These can be vitamins, minerals, hyaluronic acid or other nourishing substances. The aim is to nourish and hydrate the skin from within and improve skin quality.

Uitgebreide uitleg

What is mesotherapy used for?

Mesotherapy is used for various skin problems and complaints. Think of dull or tired-looking skin, fine lines and hair loss on the scalp. The treatment can also be considered when skin structure has deteriorated due to weight loss or ageing.

The treatment is aimed at improving skin quality and not at adding volume or correcting contours.

What does a mesotherapy treatment involve?

During the treatment, small amounts of the chosen mixture are injected into the skin with a fine needle or a special device. This is done at several points in the area being treated. The treatment usually takes 20 to 40 minutes and usually no anaesthetic is needed. On request, a local anaesthetic cream can be used.

After the treatment the skin may be slightly red or feel somewhat sensitive. This usually disappears quickly.

How long does the result last?

The result of mesotherapy builds up over several sessions. A course of three to five treatments is usually recommended, followed by maintenance treatments. The effect differs per person and per complaint.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Mesotherapy is generally well tolerated. Temporary redness, swelling or small bruises at the injection sites are the most common side effects. In rare cases allergic reactions can occur. A proper consultation with a doctor is therefore important.

Who is mesotherapy suitable for?

Mesotherapy may be suitable for people who want to improve their skin quality without drastic treatments. It is also popular as a maintenance treatment to keep the skin in good condition. A consultation with a doctor is always needed to assess whether the treatment suits your skin type and complaints.
