What is a Nefertiti lift?

What does this term mean?

Definitie

A Nefertiti lift is a non-surgical treatment in which botox is injected into the muscles along the jawline and neck. Relaxing these muscles lifts the skin along the chin and neck slightly. The result is a sharper jawline and a more defined neck contour.

The treatment is named after the Egyptian queen Nefertiti, known for her slender, elegant neck and sharp jawline.

Uitgebreide uitleg

How does the Nefertiti lift work?

The platysma is a broad muscle in the neck that pulls down on the lower jaw and the skin. As we get older, this muscle becomes stronger relative to the muscles that pull upwards. This can lead to a less defined jawline and a tired appearance.

Injecting botox along the jawline and into the platysma reduces the downward pull. This allows the muscles that pull upwards to take over, creating a slight lifting effect.

Who is this treatment suitable for?

A Nefertiti lift may be suitable for people who are bothered by a slightly sagging jawline or a less defined neck contour. The treatment works best in people with early changes in the jaw and neck line, where the skin is still sufficiently firm.

With pronounced skin laxity or severe volume loss, a surgical procedure may be a more suitable option. A consultation with a doctor is always necessary for a proper assessment.

What does the treatment involve?

During the treatment, small amounts of botox are injected with a fine needle at several points along the jawline and in the neck. Anaesthetic is usually not needed. The treatment takes about ten to twenty minutes.

After the treatment you can resume your daily activities immediately. The effect is clearly visible after two to four weeks.

How long does the result last?

The result of a Nefertiti lift is temporary and lasts three to six months on average. After that, muscle activity gradually increases again. With repeated treatments the effect can last longer.

Are there any risks or side effects?

A Nefertiti lift is generally well tolerated when the treatment is carried out by an experienced doctor. Possible side effects are temporary redness, swelling or a bruise at the injection sites. In rare cases there may be temporary muscle weakness in the treated area.

Knowledge of the anatomy of the neck and jaw is essential for a safe treatment.

Does Kliniek het Bolwerk perform this treatment?
