What is Tixel?

What does this term mean?

Definitie

Tixel is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses controlled heat transfer to improve the skin. A device with small titanium pins briefly touches the skin and releases heat. This stimulates collagen production and promotes cell renewal, without the skin being damaged by laser light or needles.

Uitgebreide uitleg

How does Tixel work?

The Tixel device contains a plate with small titanium pyramids that are heated. By pressing the plate briefly and in a controlled way against the skin, heat is transferred to the skin cells. This activates the skin's repair process, in which collagen and elastin are produced.

Depending on the intensity of the treatment, Tixel can be used superficially or more deeply. At a lower intensity hardly any recovery time is needed. At a higher intensity the skin may be red for a few days.

What is Tixel used for?

Tixel is used for various skin problems and complaints. Common indications are:

  • fine lines and wrinkles
  • slack or less firm skin
  • scars, including acne scars
  • enlarged pores
  • uneven skin texture or pigmentation

The treatment can be used on the face, neck, décolletage and hands.

What does the treatment involve?

Before the treatment a numbing cream is applied to increase comfort. The Tixel device is then applied to the areas to be treated. The treatment usually takes 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the surface to be treated.

Afterwards the skin may feel warm and be slightly red. This usually disappears within a few hours to days, depending on the intensity chosen.

How long does the result last?

The results of Tixel build up after several sessions. A course of two to four treatments is usually recommended, a few weeks apart. The effect on skin quality is long-lasting, but maintenance treatments can help sustain the result.

Are there any risks or side effects?

Tixel is generally considered safe. Temporary redness, a feeling of warmth and slight swelling are the most common side effects. At higher intensities small scabs may form, which disappear on their own. It is important to protect the skin well from the sun during the recovery process.

Does Kliniek het Bolwerk perform this treatment?

Kliniek het Bolwerk specialises in eyelid surgery and other surgical treatments. Tixel treatments are not part of our range of treatments.

We do think it is important that you are well informed about the different options, so that you can make a well-considered choice.
