Chemical peel

What does this term mean?

Definitie

A chemical peel is a cosmetic treatment used to improve skin texture and skin tone. In this method, a liquid containing acids or enzymes is applied to the skin, which makes the top layers of skin peel off faster. This stimulates the production of new skin cells, so the skin looks more even, smoother and fresher.

Chemical peels are often used for superficial skin concerns such as pigmentation spots, acne scars, enlarged pores or early Skin ageing.

Uitgebreide uitleg

How does a chemical peel work?

The liquid used in a chemical peel contains active ingredients such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid or TCA. Depending on how deep they work, peels are divided into superficial, medium-depth or deep peels.

  • Superficial peel: targets the top layer of the skin and provides mild renewal
  • Medium-depth peel: also reaches the dermis and addresses pigmentation, fine lines or scars
  • Deep peel: works intensively and is usually carried out under medical supervision

After the treatment, slight redness or peeling often occurs. Recovery differs per type of peel, but the result is usually visible within a few days.

What are the possible benefits?

A chemical peel can bring various skin improvements, such as:

  • a smoother skin texture
  • reduction of pigmentation spots or sun damage
  • refined pores
  • softening of fine lines
  • refreshing dull or tired skin

The effect and the intensity needed depend on your skin type, the indication and the active ingredient used.

Are chemical peels offered at Kliniek het Bolwerk?

At Kliniek het Bolwerk, we do not perform chemical peels. We specialise in treatments aimed at structural corrections, such as eyelid surgery, Plastic Surgery and injectables for volume loss or skin ageing.

Because we focus entirely on this specialist care, we are happy to refer people interested in skincare or superficial skin treatments to specialised skin therapists or clinics that work with these every day.

Are there alternatives?

Depending on your concern, there are alternatives that do fall within the range of treatments at Kliniek het Bolwerk. For example:

  • botulinum toxin for expression lines or sagging
  • fillers to restore facial volume or contour
  • plastic surgery corrections such as eyelid surgery for drooping eyelids

During a no-obligation consultation, we are happy to discuss what suits your skin and wishes. If it turns out that a chemical peel is a better fit than one of our treatments, we will tell you honestly.

Finally

A chemical peel can be an effective solution for mild skin concerns or dull skin, but it is not suitable for everyone. At Kliniek het Bolwerk, we focus on treatments with a deeper effect and do not offer chemical peels.

Would you like to know which treatment method suits your skin? Feel free to get in touch for a no-obligation consultation. We are happy to think along with you and give honest advice that fits your situation and expectations.
