After a surgical treatment, your skin is often damaged and you have a scar. To let the scar mature as nicely as possible, the plastic surgeon will pay extra attention to good suturing. For whom?
For anyone who has undergone a treatment that created a scar, we recommend using a scar cream. Scars that have arisen from other causes can also benefit from a good cream. Read this page carefully to learn more about scar treatment with a cream.
There are various good products available in stores in widely varying price ranges. Over many years in practice, I have seen very good results from scar treatments with Alhydran. That is why I can recommend this product.
For whom else?
Besides the cream being effective in caring for fresh scars, it can also be used for:
- Older active scars (still red and itchy)
- Itching
- Burns, but also sun-burned skin
- Dry or red skin
- After radiation therapy
- And therefore for new scars
What is it, what is in it?
Vitamin E has been proven to have a positive effect on scars. Vitamin C also works positively by clearing free oxygen radicals in the scar area. Both ingredients are present in Alhydran. In addition, it also contains a high concentration of Aloe Vera gel, natural oils, jojoba oil and the aforementioned vitamins E and C.
So what does it do?
Alhydran absorbs quickly into the skin and treats the scar from the outside and the inside. The Aloe Vera gel provides long-lasting hydration of the skin, while the other active ingredients ensure recovery and a reduction in skin complaints.
How to apply?
Apply a small amount of the cream each time; this can simply be done with your fingers. Of course, with clean hands, so wash your hands beforehand and afterwards. Spread the cream thinly and evenly, a little beyond the scar area. You only use a little because the product contains a high concentration of active components. As a result, you only need to apply a little and the tube lasts a long time. Do apply it to the scar often, as much as 3-6 times a day. Once the scar is stable, you may also massage it. The mechanical movement has a positive effect on the scar.
When to apply?
Immediately after the procedure, the operated area is covered with wound strips. These wound strips are part of the suturing process, and it is important to follow the plastic surgeon’s postoperative instructions carefully. After 7 to 14 days you come back to have the stitches removed and you receive new instructions on caring for the scar.
Our advice is: apply a good cream containing, among other things, vitamin E to the scar area 3-6 times a day. This creates the best conditions for a nice and speedy scar recovery. Alhydran is a good cream and contains, among other things, vitamin E. The effect of vitamin E on scars has been clinically proven. Keep using the cream as long as the scar is red.
How long do I apply it, when should I stop?
Only once the scar has settled (turned white) may you stop. Generally this is after 6 weeks, but longer can also occur. Take photos if you like to track the scar healing yourself. If you would like to share these photos, we are grateful, as we learn from this too.
What is not in the cream?
The cream is neutral and free of perfume and parabens. It is moreover not tested on animals. That is why it can also be used on sensitive skin.
Also with SPF 30?
Yes, certainly, Alhydran with an SPF 30 protection factor is also available. This is recommended for scars that cannot be kept out of the sun. Sunlight can have an effect on fresh scars, causing them to darken and possibly remain dark.

Anti Itch Care
This cream is developed to relieve irritation caused by itching and also to hydrate the skin for a long time. Having an itch can be very unpleasant and there are many remedies to combat the itch. As doctors, we often reach for the so-called hormone ointments, but with prolonged use these have a bad effect on the skin. The Anti Itch Care hypoallergenic cream contains menthyl lactate, which is a hypoallergenic alternative to menthol. This cream also contains the ingredients vitamin E and C, which have a good effect on scars.
What does it do?
Reduces the urge to scratch and soothes the itchy red skin.
The product is suitable for all skin types but not for open scratch wounds.
Barrier Repair Care
The Barrier Repair Care can be used immediately after a medical treatment. These can be laser treatments, chemical peels and our medical or cosmetic treatments. This product is suitable for all skin types and is hypoallergenic. The active ingredients are Aloe Vera and 3 other ingredients (Bisabolol, Allantoin, Beta-glucan) that calm the skin, reduce redness and support wound healing. The cream must be applied at least twice a day and can be used for a longer period without negative consequences.
Eczema Care
The name says it all: the Eczema Care can be used for eczema. The dermatologist can tell you much more about eczema, but for completeness of information I will make an attempt.
Eczema is a kind of inflammation of the skin. Due to the inflammatory reaction, the barrier function of the skin is reduced. The skin loses moisture from the inside out, and because the barrier function is reduced, substances can more easily penetrate the skin and cause skin reactions.
How do I recognise eczema?
Eczema is characterised by red, dry skin that feels itchy and burning. A skin rash may be present. Infections and small wounds can arise from scratching.
In the medical world a hormone cream is usually prescribed. This cream contains the ingredient urea and no hormones. After use it relieves the itching and the burning sensation in the skin. Flare-ups of new eczema are prevented.
Cracked Dry Skin care
If you have extremely dry skin, the Cracked Dry Skin Care offers a treatment. The cream adds moisture and strengthens your skin. Dryness, flaking and cracks decrease with regular use. The active ingredients are Aloe Vera (hydration), shea butter (softens and improves), bisabolol (stimulates healing) and panthenol (hydrates).
