A filler treatment is a quick and effective way to fill up wrinkles, restore volume or improve certain facial contours. Many people choose this treatment because the result is immediately visible and no surgery is involved. Still, it is good to know what you can expect after the treatment. How does it feel? Immediately after the treatment
After the fillers are placed, you often see results right away. The lips appear fuller, the cheekbones better defined or the wrinkles softened. Still, it is important to know that this is not yet the final result. The skin needs time to recover and the injected hyaluronic acid has to distribute itself properly in the tissues.
Immediately after the treatment, the treated area may be slightly swollen. This is normal and usually temporary. The skin may also look a little red or feel warm. In some cases a small bruise arises at the injection site, especially in people with sensitive skin or with injections around the mouth and eyes. These reactions usually disappear within a few days.
The first few days after the treatment
In the days after the treatment, the swelling begins to decrease. Any redness or bruising also slowly fades. Some people experience a slight tender feeling on the treated spot, similar to muscle ache. This feeling is completely normal and is part of the natural recovery process of the skin.
It is wise to handle the treated area carefully in the first 24 to 48 hours after the treatment. Avoid intensive exercise, hot showers or the use of saunas. It is also better not to massage or firmly touch the face, so that the filler has time to settle properly.
Make-up can usually be applied again the next day, as long as the skin is no longer sensitive. Use clean brushes or sponges for this to prevent infection.
When do you see the final result?
Although you already see an effect immediately after the treatment, the final result is only clearly visible after about one to two weeks. In that period the swelling has completely disappeared, any bruises have healed and the product is well distributed in the skin.
It is important not to confuse this waiting with dissatisfaction about the result. Your face really does need a little time to adjust. Many people notice that the result looks even better after a week than in the first hours after the treatment.
What if you are in doubt or feel something that does not feel right?
In most cases the recovery proceeds without problems. But if something does not feel right, for example because the swelling suddenly increases, your skin discolours or you feel pain that does not subside, always contact the clinic. How long does recovery take on average?
Most people are fully recovered from mild side effects such as swelling or bruising within one to three days. The final result is often clearly visible after one to two weeks. The recovery time depends on the area that has been treated, your skin type and your sensitivity to bruising or swelling.
A treatment of the lips, for example, can give a little more swelling than a treatment of the cheekbones, because the skin there is more sensitive. Still, in almost all cases you can resume your daily activities immediately after the treatment.
A natural result begins with good aftercare
A beautiful result is achieved not only with the right technique during the treatment, but also with good aftercare afterwards. Take the time to recover, drink enough water, follow the advice of your treating doctor and be patient.
Most clients are very satisfied with the final result after two weeks and, based on that, schedule a repeat treatment when the effect begins to diminish.
